Cuatlicue is the mother of Huitzilopochtli. She was impregnated by a ball of feathers while she was sweeping. Her children, the stars, were ashamed of the way she became pregnant and decided to kill her. At her death Coatlicue gave birth to a fully grown and armed Huitzilopochtli, who defeated his half brothers and sisters in battle.
